Conférence - Emmanuel Van der Auwera
Emmanuel Van der Auwera is a multi-disciplinary artist critically engaging with the production and dissemination of technical images in the age of emotional capitalism. His work often operates as a means to investigate the hidden assembly line concealed from the surface of the digital supply chain. Moving through themes of digital subculture and synthetic media, his evolving practice uses tools such as chronophotography, generative image AI and surveillance technology. In his talk, Van der Auwera will discuss his process leading up to his exhibition Saturn at CAP Lyon, tracing how images shape, and distort, our shared sense of reality.
Emmanuel Van der Auwera (b. 1982, BE) is an artist whose work reflects upon the chains of production and consumption of images as part of a new visual economy brought by digital spaces, and the responsibility inherent in the act of seeing. He is a 2015 Langui Award recipient of the Young Belgian Art Prize, and the first winner of the Goldwasserschenking awarded by the WIELS Contemporary Art Centre. His work has been widely shown at leading institutions such as the Palais de Tokyo (Paris, FR); Pinakothek der Moderne (Munich, DE); KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin, DE); among others.
